The 21st century is amazing. We’ve never been more connected with each other, our passions and our favourite brands. Of course, Social Media stalking allows us to get to know these things at a more intimate level. In fact, if we did what we do now 20 years ago, we’d probably (definitely) be locked up for being a Peeping Tom.
This level of intimacy allows people to get to know, like and trust us at a higher level than ever before. It also dramatically increases the reach a brand can achieve and the speed that this outreach can happen. Yes, there are negatives – encroaching on personal space, oversharing, the rise of the Kardashians – but there are so many benefits to capitalise on!
Get close to your customers (but not sliding into their DMs close) with content that encourages engagement, including amazing imagery, captivating video and targeted advertising. Social Media is the perfect platform to humanise your brand, to show off your culture and to show what being a part of your business means to you, your staff and your customers. Only show the fun stuff please, not Gerry from accounts stapling together annual reports. Posts should include staff and client spotlights, as well as beautifully designed content. It makes you more approachable and relatable and showcases the care your business has for both its clients and staff.
What social media also achieves is brand intimacy like never before. When people choose to follow you, it means they’ve bought into your brand values. It means your content is on point, and resonates with them. What does this mean? It means customer loyalty. It means you can get real-time feedback and interaction with your most valued clients. It means you have your own minions who are advocates for your brand. Interacting with your followers shows everyone looking on that you care.
So go on, let them watch.
