In the world of Social Media the Iceberg Effect has never been so prevalent. We have all heard of the Iceberg Effect and in principle understand it, but it’s not until you really push into it, that you can truly understand it. It’s not until you have a reasonable organic social following (unpaid), people who like or respect what you do and are looking on, it’s then when you start posting regularly, when you start letting yourself out and stop taking yourself to seriously… this is when you will start seeing the Iceberg Effect come into play.
So for those of you who aren’t sure of what the Iceberg Effect is, it’s the effect of what’s happening on the surface doesn’t match what’s underneath. In Social Media terms for every person that is commenting and liking your post there are tonnes looking on, seeing what you are doing, trying to work out if they like you or not and if they’d like to work with you.
This is my angle, the Iceberg Effect from the professional angle.
Do you post on Social Media saying how good you are, how proficient you are, how you are the leader in your field, blah blah blah. I mean really, who cares and lets be honest that’s what you are supposed to be, professional, proficient, good, the best, all of those things… but the most effective use of Social Media is to let yourself out, so people can relate to you, I mean you are a person, a real person, not a professional robot, so everyone knows that you are just like them, so letting yourself out a little, may mean they will like you and why wouldn’t you rather do business with someone you like?
NOW you have the chance to make your Social Media effective and you will start to see the Iceberg Effect, because when people are talking to you they will drop in the conversation, “hey I saw what you did the other day on Social Media”, even though they didn’t like, comment or share it, this will start happening over and over again, until they will start to feel comfortable enough to join in on the post also.
And there we have it, the Iceberg Effect… good quality below the line marketing that will make a huge difference.
